When the Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua was ready to undergo a substantial renovation, BG Buildingworks stepped up to help the project become a reality. BG provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and technology systems engineering, design, and construction administration services to support the renovation project. Overall, the project consisted of 350,000 square feet of remodel and condominium unit conversion, as well as 25,000 square feet of new construction.
A five-star resort in Hawaii has limited availability for downtime – “off seasons” do not exist. Thus was the controlling factor: the need to shorten the construction window as much as possible to mitigate revenue losses. BG partnered with Gencom, Architectural Resource Consultants, SB Architects, and a team of PCL Construction and Ledcor Construction, working together in a design-assist format to deliver this large-scale project in the extremely tight timeframe by identifying solutions and methods that aligned with quickly- or readily-available products.
The final product converted the entire west wing of the hotel into full- and fractional-ownership condominium units, remodeled the east wing of guestrooms to a similar aesthetic, a renovation and expansion of the existing spa and fitness center, a makeover of the lobby and public areas, and renovations and new kitchen fit-out for the world-class dining options on-property.
