West Vail Fire Station #3
Civic / Government
In order to improve emergency response times, the Town of Vail commissioned a new fire station to serve the west areas of town. Energy efficiency, ease of system maintenance, and system longevity were key factors driving the MEP design.
The building includes housing to accommodate up to 12 firefighters as well as modern training facilities. Located right off of I-70, the facility is in a high-profile location near alternative transportation corridors and access points.
BG provided full design of the HVAC, plumbing, power, and lighting systems, as well as coordination between the commissioning agent, LEED champion, and other design consultants. BG provided coordination with the architect regarding building assemblies to help reduce building energy consumption. Additional areas of energy reduction were: efficient boiler system, low-flow plumbing fixtures, radiant in-floor heating, increased outside air ventilation, heat recovery ventilation, and energy-efficient lighting systems.
The firm’s design team along with other members of the project team worked to ensure that the project met the owner’s standards of LEED Gold Certification. BG also provided technology consulting services for the project, making sure that the facility would be a leader in the fire protection industry for years to come.
